Your Soul’s Path
Have you ever felt like you were a misfit in this crazy world? Like you were so different, you just didn’t belong… anywhere? I believe it’s because we’re comparing ourselves, trying to fit into someone else’s puzzle. Pieces that will only fit in our puzzle. Our own unique, amazing, puzzle called our Soul.
When I’m being and doing what feels right for ME, I no longer feel like a misfit. I feel happy, content, giddy and excited! Like I can conquer the world! I have passion and compassion…strength and courage…patience and boldness and I feel fully alive! I feel fully connected to my Soul.
Your eyes reflect the truth…
When I’m connected to my Soul, my eyes show it. They’re brighter. Bluer. They actually sparkle. That’s why I believe it when they say… “our eyes are the window to our Soul”. I can always see when someone is truly living their life on purpose. Their eyes show it.
Sometimes it’s hard shutting out all the outside noise and connecting with our Soul and God. We don’t realize that we aren’t living the life we were created to live. We aren’t using and enjoying the gifts God has given us. That’s why so many people feel empty and unhappy and don’t know why.
Daydreams or clues…
I’ve discovered a book that has really impacted the way I make choices in my life; “Cure for the Common Life: Living in Your Sweet Spot” by Max Lucado. In his book, Max helps you reach all the way back to childhood to help you realize where your strengths and passions are that give clues to what your life purpose is. I was amazed how accurate it felt for me, and how others agreed with what it brought up in their lives.
For instance…I mentioned the book to two of my friends. We talked about what we were doing in our lives now and what we remember day-dreaming about and enjoyed as children.
One of my friends was doing just as she dreamed about when she was a child and that was working with animals. She had always loved animals and they loved her. I used to call her Mrs. Doolittle. She has taken her passion and her gifts and turned it into a very successful business and is very happy doing what she does. She is now one of the top small dog breeders in the United States.
The other friend who is currently unhappy in her career, said she couldn’t remember really day-dreaming about anything and wasn’t sure what her passion or gifts were. She said all she remembers is enjoying going out to the yard and swinging on the swing. When I asked her what she thought about as she swung, she got quiet and tears filled her eyes. She said she would daydream about helping children in impoverished areas and doing mission trips.
It turns out the career she was currently in was working at a church helping teens and she loved it, until new management stepped in and was changing things. They were taking away what she enjoyed and she was no longer happy there. She felt a sense of loss and couldn’t figure out why it was effecting her so deeply. They were taking away her purpose and not allowing her to use her God given gifts. It not only effected her job, it hurt her Soul.
God’s plan for me…
For me…I remember starting as early as grade school, sticking up for the underdog and having compassion for them. I didn’t like games because I didn’t like to see kids get picked last or for anyone to loose. When I daydreamed, it was about standing up for those who were afraid to stand up for themselves. Being their strength and their voice and doing something about the wrong that was being done.
Because of a life experience…I did become a High Impact Speaker on behalf of people that had experienced abuse. One time, the community was advertising my speaking event and they hung up flyers with my picture on it. It happened my niece was at a restaurant in the Twin Cities and went to use the restroom. As she was sitting on the potty she called her Mom. “Mom! I’m in the bathroom at the restaurant and Auntie Pammy’s picture is staring at me on the back of the stall door!”
I saw her and her Mom shortly after that and we laughed at the whole scene. My sister-in-law told me that when I was a little girl I told her I was going to to be a public speaker when I got older. I have no idea where that came from because I don’t remember knowing what a public speaker was at that age. Obviously my Soul did.
What memories guide you to your future…
What about you? What treasured memories or daydreams from when you were a child point to God given gifts that fuel your passion? Are you living your life…or someone else’s? I really do recommend reading the book to wake up your memory…see what comes up.
This book is also excellent to help you see and hear things in your children or grandchildren. Traits that may point toward their future that shouldn’t be ignored or smothered. You don’t want to have them stuff that memory so deep, they never use their God given gifts. Encourage and support them.
